Winter Wassail

THE RECIPE

  • 4 cups apple cider

  • 2 cups pulp-free orange juice

  • 4 cinnamon sticks

  • 2 teaspoons whole cloves

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • Star anise, for garnish

To make:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan on the stove over medium-high heat.

  2. Allow to simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring intermittently.

  3. Taste wassail; if a stronger flavor is desired, allow the wassail to continue to simmer until desired flavor is achieved.

  4. Strain wassail and pour into heat-stable drinking glasses. If desired, add a shot of your favorite whiskey or brandy.

  5. Garnish glass with a pod of star anise on the rim.

  6. Serve warm, and enjoy!
