Winter Wassail
THE RECIPE
4 cups apple cider
2 cups pulp-free orange juice
4 cinnamon sticks
2 teaspoons whole cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Star anise, for garnish
To make:
Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan on the stove over medium-high heat.
Allow to simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring intermittently.
Taste wassail; if a stronger flavor is desired, allow the wassail to continue to simmer until desired flavor is achieved.
Strain wassail and pour into heat-stable drinking glasses. If desired, add a shot of your favorite whiskey or brandy.
Garnish glass with a pod of star anise on the rim.
Serve warm, and enjoy!
